Leann Moore, associate director of the Community Engagement Initiative, was honored by the Delaware’s Office of the Child Advocate (OCA) and CASA Delaware as Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) of the Year for New Castle County on Oct. 26, 2023.

Delaware’s CASA program, which began in New Castle County in 1981, trains volunteers to advocate for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse or neglect.

Moore has advocated for kids in foster care as a CASA volunteer for eight years. During that time, she has worked with 11 children, ranging in age from birth to 21, across three states.

A notable majority of the children that Moore represents are reunified with their families. “Reunification is always the goal,” she says.
