Community programs support mental health coping skills

UD Cooperative Extension has provided several group-style programs in its second year of programming to support Delawareans’ mental health coping skills development. These programs offer opportunities for competitive group play, storytelling, communication and empathy-building activities, and social-emotional-directed activities.
Resilience X
Resilience X is a science-based, six-session resilience training program used to develop and inspire resilience in program participants.
During the summer of 2024, a six-week informal group-styled Resilience X program was piloted in Wilmington, DE, at the YWCA. While learning how to build and develop resiliency, this program encouraged residents to share their life experiences, contributing to peer education and building community, healthy friendships, support systems, and social skills.
Wits Workout
Wits Workout, a brain health program for the 55+ community, was launched in New Castle and Kent counties.
This program allows participants to compete with others while socializing and learning. Activities encourage large and small group work and one-on-one partnerships while simultaneously challenging long and short-term memory functions.
Receiving rave reviews from program participants at both the Wilmington Senior Center and the Milford Senior Center, Wits Workout will be hosted at the Frederica Senior Center for six weeks during the winter of 2025.
