The Community Engagement Initiative offers three funded summer programs that allow motivated undergraduate students to engage in community-based or anti-racism projects.

Undergraduate UDARI Summer Scholars will immerse themselves in a research or creative project based on race, anti-racism, or racial justice across 10 weeks in summer 2025.

Community Engagement Summer Scholars spend 10 weeks during the summer in pursuit of their projects in partnership with a Delaware non-profit, governmental, community-based action research, or service-based corporate activity while simultaneously pursuing academic reflection under the guidance of a UD faculty mentor.

Students specifically interested in the arts (i.e., dancers, actors, visual artists, etc.) can immerse themselves in a self-guided project under the supervision of a faculty mentor, while considering the impact on the larger community.

Full-time scholars receive a stipend of $4,000 and the expected time commitment is 20-25 hours per week.

Students who prefer to work on a community engagement project part-time can apply to be a Community Engagement Summer Fellow. Fellow projects vary in length of time commitment and funding.

Students interested in the Community Engagement scholars or fellows programs may apply individually or as two- or three-person teams.

All projects will result in a written document, such as a technical report, feature article, academic paper, journal, or presentation.

Decisions will be announced on Mar. 14. Questions about the programs can be directed to BlueHensEngage@udel.edu.
